The entrance or front door to your home is often the centrepiece of your home’s facade. People are more likely to be attracted to your house if your front door appears attractive and inviting. With just two products, we can show you how you can create an outstanding entrance to your home.
If you’re using water-based paint soak your brush in an inch of water for 10-15min, then remove and spin in between your hands to remove excess water. If you’re using oil-based paint, follow the same steps using turps instead of water.
Remove all handles and fittings, and tape over your hinges to protect them from any paint splatter. Wash off any stains or dirt marks then sand all over to remove the lacquer from the current paint (ensuring the new paint adheres properly). Once your surface is smoothed out, wipe it down to remove all traces of dust and fill any gaps with Monarch Mini gap filler. Now you’re ready to paint.
If your door has been painted with a bright colour previously, hide it with a white undercoat, that way if you want to use another bright shade it won’t have any trace of the old colour. Use a quality brush to cut in and a SmartLock foam roller to roll out the flat surfaces.
Using a pencil, mark your door with a start and end point in between each panel of the door to avoid multiple brush strokes in the same area. This will ensure even paint application for a smooth finish.
Start by cutting in each panel with the Walls, Doors and Trims brush, then roll out the flat surfaces with SmartLock foam mini roller. After rolling, make sure to ‘tip off’ the rolled area with a brush to get a professional smooth finish. Paint the remaining small sections of the door one by one with a quality brush.
Congratulations, you’re done! If you have any taped areas, gently pull up the tape while your second coat is still tacky. Pour or scrape any leftover paint back into the tin for re-use. Wash your brushes and rollers thoroughly so you can use them for your next project. Store your roller in its plastic container in between projects. Reattach any hardware once the paint has completely dried.
